Picture of the Day

When you look at this image, what does it spark within you? Is it joy? Elation? Nostalgia? Or sadness? Before this pandemic, there was nothing I loved more than being cramped into a crowd, having someone's elbow in my ribs, and another's boot on mine. I loved the rush of adrenaline as the band I waited hours to see, jumped onstage, making the moment worthwhile.

Now, I couldn't tell you how I would feel about a concert if I could attend one in today's frightening times. I would feel anxious. Would the lyrics I used to scream over the bass be muffled beneath my mask? Would I be too afraid of bumping shoulders with strangers? Would I be too afraid to even enter the venue?

This image, for me, is a reminder that the lives we lived before Covid-19 are no more. We are going to leave this year as fragile, traumatized human beings. It will take time, but we will find our voices again. Someday I will get to see my favourite musicians again, to hug them and tell them how much I missed their talents.

We will have to find new ways of living in this pandemic society. This blog, I hope, will create a map of this new world, our new normal that we are forced to grow accustomed to. Livestream performances to benefit financially struggling music venues are becoming quite popular (I'll be in virtual attendance of this one), which have acted as a means of escape for those still under quarantine.

To take our minds off of currents events, I encourage you to share your favourite concert/experience below in the comments. We will get through this together.

  1. I love the nostalgia of concerts, it makes my heart hurt. My favorite concert I've been to was The 1975 in San Diego; I had nosebleed seats! They're one of my favorite bands of all time and I definitely miss following them around the country!

  2. I have been to a few concerts/festivals in my life. I can not imagine how the festival world will bounce back after COVID. Part of me thinks things will just go back to normal, but at the same time you won't be able to have 100,000 people in the same place for a long time. I do think once this eventually gets under control we will be able to attend concerts again as we used to.

  3. I miss going to concerts so much! Me and my brother go to a music festival called Bonnaroo every year and see some local shows once in a while in-between.This year's line-up for Bonnaroo was what looked like the best one since I had been going, and their headliner was my favorite artist. It felt like a dream come true but was cancelled because of the pandemic. In the end, it was the correct decision regardless of my broken heart. I honestly can't imagine going to concerts any time in the near future, sadly. I hold out hope for a grand re-opening of of some kind when the virus is under control and people run merrily again.
